Cheers to sending an email politely reminding me that my hastily-constructed spring banner had the Mother of All Typos, the IE/EI in “receiving” (sincere thanks, Andrew).
Jeers to doing so in my comment box, and calling me a bad writer for it (totally unsincere thanks, Irene).

hmm… is it a glitch in the idea network? like you sit down to write and can think of nothing? well, if it is, heres a fun piece its a kids book about theatre, so if you want, heres an idea my friends and i have been kicking around: we have the raging squid riggers, the panicky manatee sound guy, angry squirel electricians, and shitty emu carpenters. although now that i think of it, maybe just cranky emu carps. dont wanna give the kids a bad word to play with…. hope that brightens your day. love the new banner

Hmmm… methinks that if persons have no better things to do than read banners and PUBLICLY correct the grammar therein they need to find another, more satisfying occupation. Volunteer at a homeless kitchen! Join a think tank on grammar! Jump in a lake!
No, I’m not really an acerbic person. I’m just having an acerbic day.
As a sad New Yorker-in-exile, can I just thank you for writing such lovely, lovely stuff about living in the city? Your writing is something that I look forward to reading every day.
scerw them, anwyay. who cares about speling? that’s what editors get paid for. they need to feel important for something, right? you’re the imagery, the words, the ideas.
