The past few weeks haven’t been completely consumed with worrying about the MFA denouement, in case you couldn’t tell (and I know you couldn’t). We also renovated our kitchen, something I’ve had on my mind for absolutely yonks.
Before:

And after two days and two extra nights of stripping, gripping, screwing (oh you LOVE it!), painting, taping, repainting, untaping, drinking beer, eating pizza, and making silly faces for the camera with face masks on, behold the After:

And the new shelving to solve some space issues:

How’s that for time not badly spent, eh? Click here to see the entire set in all its blue and white glory.

So do you guys own that apartment? you’re always doing nice things like repainting and partially renovating various rooms, and it’s hard for me to imagine spending that kind of money and time on an apartment that you rent. But, I also know how expensive apartments are in NYC, so I was just wondering whether you own, or you’re just wonderful tenants?
Beeeauttiful! I love seeing your home renovation escapades! My favorite was the den…maybe the bedroom. no, definitely the den. Everything is so warm and cheery! I was actually wondering the same thing that Ariella commented on…
Sadly, Ariella, we rent. But we love it here so much, and we have such a good relationship with our landlord, that we can both see ourselves staying for yet another few years (I’ve/we’ve been here since 2002). So to me, it’s worth investing in painting and good shelves and things. Home is, as you can imagine for a constantly-uprooted oil brat like me, very crucial to my happiness.
Plus, it’s fun! Always a good excuse for takeout and silly paint fights.
You guys are definitely wonderful tenants! I know what you mean about having a terrific relationship with your landlord; ours is wonderful. We just bought our first house, however, so we’ll be leaving them.
I do love home renovations. I really wanted a fixer-upper type house, so that we could constantly be doing something to it, however we ended up getting one that’s basically move-in ready (with a few projects). Nonetheless, I think we’ll be able to paint and do some other home improvement projects — which will be great because I probably won’t have a job when we move halfway across the country!
Love the blue against the marigold. LOVES! Also, what other kinds of things will fit in a twirling spice rack? I wonder…
so pretty! The color in your dining room is the color that’s sitting in paint cans in my living room and is going on my kitchen walls. LOVE the bright yellow!
On a completely separate note – where do I look for a present for a girlfriend who loves dogs? I’m having trouble conjuring a place that’s both girly and canine. Hope it’s ok to ask here !!
I really like what you guys did! Relatively small changes that made a big impact!
I’m another renter like you and Stuart who is always doing home improvement projects. They are more than worth the dollars spent to me in the pride and comfort I feel in my home. And also, my references from former landlords are GLOWING, which is another little bonus.
Sally, I think the things at The Dog Shop – http://www.thedog-clubs.com – are adorable for any sort of dog lover. And Krissa, LOVE the kitchen. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. (And also, am jealous.)
Love that shade of blue. It looks great!
Really cute kitchen, I like it !
I love Le petit hiboux, but I don’t really like the letter x, so I think le petit hibou which is grammatically correct is better, but we all have our opinion, right ?
