When you finish the riveting third book of a trilogy on the subway ride in to work, and have nothing left to read for lunchtime or the ride home.
Anyone?
I hear ya… that and if you forget whatever book you’re reading AT work and have to make-do with something just for that night. Ugh.
What was the trilogy?
Also, I’ve been known to pull a second book off the shelf before running out the door if it looks like I’m getting near the end of the first book, even if it means I haul two books around all day.
I consider those days a good excuse to buy a magazine!
Hate that!
What was the trilogy?
Yes… but then you get to roll all three books and their riveting storylines around your head all day and enjoy the cobwebs of the story still lodged in your brain without diluting it with another story right away. I love doing that– keeping the characters close for a little while.
I always keep a magazine with me (New Yorker) for just that reason.
You know what’s worse?
When your coworker decides to start taking the train with you and significantly cuts into your transit reading time.
OMG Melinda, I sort of thought I was a complete asshole and alone in the universe for having that reaction.
I’m glad I’m not alone.
It’s especially unfortunate since my commute is more than an hour…
My boyfriend, on the other hand, says he never talks to coworkers on the train. The most he will do if he and another guy happen to run into one another on the platform is say hello. Maybe it’s a uniquely female obligation?
