So, wow! I’ve been insanely busy – you? Well, we’re going to Chicago tomorrow, because the fabulous Ms. Brown and Mr. Cripps are getting themselves hitched in high style. Between all the fabulous parties, is there anything you, Internet, absolutely insist we try when we’re in the White City?
Other than the deep-dish pizza, alright, ENOUGH ALREADY.

Art Institute of Chicago
Field Institute (science museum with lots of taxidermy and dioramas)
architecture tour
and don’t forget your side-trip to San Francisco, right?
Definitely check out the Wicker Park / Bucktown area (start at the 6-points intersection of Damen, Milwaukee and North Avenues).
In terms of good eats around there, check out Feast, Las Palmas, or Francesca’s Forno. For a drink, Bin Wine Cafe or Northside (especially if the weather cooperates).
Actually, I like the hot dogs a lot more than the pizza. Devil Dogs is a great place for them – owned by a former member of Chicago (the band), it’s the place where Julia Roberts and that guy have hot dogs in that one scene in “My Best Friend’s Wedding.”
Yeah, er… moving on.
The Art Institute is pretty astounding. If I had to burn down either it or MoMA, I’d have to think about it for a long, long time before deciding.
you must, MUST have a cupcake at Sweet Mandy B’s. it will make you feel that all is right with the world.
Ooooooh! Ooh! I know! You should DEFINITELY meet up with us. So we can give you your set of keys to the flat.
But apart from that, I am also voting for the art institute.
chicago style hot dogs all the way! devil dogs, the wiener circle, god those hot dogs are the best.
if you like comic books/graphic novels, quimbys
if you like the sci fi/fantasy, the stars our destination
cocktails at the top of the hancock building (or brunch) is one of those tourist things that’s worth it, and that locals also do all the time, like walking across the brooklyn bridge
lots more…fun!
oh my god i forgot — if you like karoke, the blue frog. call and ask if mary oke is hosting! she is beyond fantastic. great for a group, but get there early to snag a table (and some board games)
Hi Krissa, I never comment, but I’ve lived in Chicago for a few years now, so I thought I’d contribute some reccos. Rent bikes, and bike the lake shore path…See a view of the city from the huge Ferris wheel on Navy Pier…The Architecture Society boat tour is really interesting…In Bucktown/Wicker park area, Quimby’s is a really cool indy book store…see the Neo-futerists performance of “Too Much Light MAkes the Baby Go Blind” (cost $8-13, I recommend it over 2nd City – but it’s not located “downtown”)…and in classic tourist style, check out “the bean” and “the spitting face fountains” in millenium park…The beaches all open up this weekend, too.
Can’t wait to read about your Chicago adventures on your site!
Have fun in the Windy City! It’s supposed to be beautiful this weekend
