It’s spring, bitches! Just in time for summer. Some elements of the past month:
- finished with my first semester in school, definitely the right decision to go back to school – it was moderately stressful, particularly from mid-March to last week, but I really enjoyed every minute and loved the challenge (shut UP, Simon, it was NOT that easy). Plus I learned a bunch of stuff, ask me about reference! and the Type-A in me is excited that I finished it with a 4.0, pretty sure that’ll be the only semester I can say that. I’ve never in my academic career done that well so I’m gonna brag a little, mmkay?
- I am currently obsessed with: getting a new (old) bike, the color yellow, long scarves, gold shoes, trader joe’s lasagne, delicious library 2, the new yorker, nars blush, and good margaritas.
- finally spent the day at May‘s for our much-missed writing/dogs/lunch date, in anticipation of this Friday’s rooftop Salon Esse, last of the season. Writing groups are awesome, especially when combined with drinking. I know that fire was a bitch and all, but this apartment (now neighbors with Robin!) is incredible, perfect for our writing dates, which is a pity since
- I’ve gone and ruined my lazy summer by getting an internship here, so from mid-June to mid-August I’ll be working five days a week between that and my regular part-time job. SUMMER LAZY FAIL!
- But I’m excited, people, oh so excited, to be working in a gorgeous old law library on awesome projects with a director who’s really keen to show me the ropes and teach me new stuff about librarying in a library. Oh yes. I just used it as a verb.
- Have I mentioned we’re going to San Francisco to stay with the incredible Pickard-Johnsons and visit the Alameda Flea and Napa and the seals and the cable cars and AL-CA-TRAAAAAZ (*note: may not actually go to Alcatraz, may just make Eddie Izzard jokes constantly) and maybe drag these gorgeous people and their baby out to coffee?
- No? I didn’t mention it?
- Well then now is the time to start leaving me dozens of comments about your favorite places to eat/shop/walk/drink/boogie in San Francisco. I am sure in five short days in early June we will manage all of them. We’ll just forego sleep.
- WHAT? I know it’s June. I know it’ll be cold and raining. The tickets were like no dollars. Shut up.
Okay, I’ve officially updated my blog on the goings-on of my life for the past month. I’ve left out the part where I ran for student government and lost (what! I know.), the part where we paid a bunch of money to a nice lawyer man for a stupid immigration thing for no good reason (that story is hilarious, let me tell it to you over three bottles of wine), the part where my bestie is moving to London and I’m both jubilant and crushed about it, the part where the dog threw up in the car a bunch, and the part where our apartment is still an unholy mess because I’ve been in grad school and Stuart has been slaving at work.
Don’t ever say I don’t give you the good stuff at pH, in bullet points, and with a minimal amount of excessive capitalization.

SF is awesome any time of year. But, of course, I say that because I live here
Fellow San Fran-er here! (Well, technically Sausalito, but close enough…)
Did you know that they do nighttime tours of Alcatraz!??!?! Scary and fun!
If you don’t go visit Those Beautiful People and their edible baby, I might never forgive the lot of y’all. Flickr will implode with desolation if you don’t.
a friend of mine works as the
chef for Hopmonk Tavern in Sebastopol,ca. send him an email : billy@hopmonk.com. he can tell you all the amazing places to hit while you are in San francisco. Ive been reading your blog for years and it is wonderful to see you so happy! Best of luck with school!
Hi! Just googled my, (yours too), first name and found you. There’s not too many Krissa’s out there. Where are you from originally?
Hey Krissa – I’m an SF person. I love your blog and here are some of my favourite things in SF.
1) Dinner: Blue Plate – then go across the street to a fun divey bar called the Knockout. If you go on Thursday the Knockout has bingo. There is a bartender named Jonny with awesome curly hair.
2) Breakfast: Ferry Building Farmer’s Market – get mexican breakfast at the Primavera stand. Grab a bench and enjoy the amazing views. Also grab a coffee from Blue Bottle…. and a cupcake from Miette (you may fall in love with this place).
3) Neighborhood: The Mission -
Dog Eared Books: 20th and Valencia then cruise down towards 19th and hit Paxton Gate,the Curiousity Shoppe, Little Otsu. Then head to 18th and Guerrero and go to Tartine Bakery or Delfina Pizzeria or Bi-Rite Creamery for ice-cream. All that window shopping works up an appetite. You can sit in nearby Dolores Park with your ice-cream and laugh at all the locals.
4)Golden Gate Park – Check out the De Young museum even if it just means going up the tower (free). The Academy of Sciences is a zoo but they do boast an albino alligator and who can turn down an albino alligator? You can rent bikes and ride down the entire park.
Other Krissa! My dad is Greek (obvs) and though my real name is Christina, my second cousin was a Xhryssa and I just loved the name so I started using it when I was about 12. You’re right, there aren’t a lot of us!
You scored a 4.0? I gnash my teeth with jealousy, trust me, although it may have damaged some synapses in the process — no one should be THAT excited about being locked up in a law library for the summer, and oh my God, you just used “librarying” as a verb. However, your triumphant path to the chair of the ALA stretches shining and smooth before you. Carpe biblioteca, or something like that.
According to the Boy, Justin Timberlake is much taller than he had imagined. I knew you would want to know. And yes, he and Jessica Biel, of whom I have never heard, did bring the sexy back to Philip Marie.
My own summer has been ruined by massive amounts of committee work at the Little College of Lost Souls. Trying to get to New York around the third week in June if it’s possible.
And why yellow?

Ok, mine are all food-related, because really, what else is there?
* Tartine Bakery. Morning bun.
* Delfina for dinner. Not the pizzeria, the restaurant. Delicious.
* Since you’re on that street anyway, salted caramel ice cream from Birite Creamery.
* Ferry Building Farmer’s Market. If you can afford it, Slanted Door for a meal. SO GOOD.
* Kara’s Cupcakes
* Dosa for Indian food
I remember you have some food likes and dislikes, but I can’t remember what they are. With the exception of Dosa, I think you’d find something at all of the other places (unless you don’t like cupcakes, and then you are not human).
In non-food related things to do, Golden Gate Park is lovely, of course. Walking down the Embarcadero is also beautiful, as is the Palace of Fine Arts (and the Exploratorium is awesome, too). That may be it, but by all means, email if you want suggestions!
I am betting almost any amount of money that I am a good deal older than you. I just turned 46 a few days ago. My father was a very imaginative guy and thought up my name from just plain randomness. I, too, really like your cousin’s name!
